How long will it take? What I don't offer is one session "quick fixes" as effecting lasting change can take time. However the ability of hypnosis to access your subconscious mind means it can be possible to get to the root of the problem and make the required changes quickly. However the number of sessions will vary according to individual client needs, it very much depends on the complexity of the problems you are looking to address. Therapy is complete when you feel ready and have achieved what you wanted to.

How do we work together? Usually the first session will be an initial assessment as it's important I understand from you as much information as possible about your experiences so that I can devise a treatment plan that is right for you. There are then two ways we can work together and we can use either or both of these: we can focus on learning new positive ways of thinking, feeling and behaving by retraining your subconscious mind via positive suggestions; we can work analytically and understand how your current difficulties are linked to past events, to get to the root of the problem to resolve it.

Can I be made to do something I don’t want to?  Absolutely not! You are fully in control during hypnotherapy. Hypnosis can be considered a focused state of attention where your subconscious mind is particularly open to positive change, with the emphasis on the positive. Many people have heard of stage hypnosis. It’s really unfortunate for us clinical hypnotherapists that hypnosis is used for entertainment as well as therapeutic purposes, as this can make people fearful of it.  The willing participants in stage hypnosis want to follow the instructions of the hypnotist and make the audience laugh. They have volunteered to go up on stage to join in and be entertaining. So, even in stage hypnosis the person isn’t being made to do what they don’t want to.

Does it always work? No therapy guarantees a positive outcome, hypnotherapy can provide clients with positive, life changing relief of symptoms. However change facilitated by hypnotherapy still requires commitment and work on your part. We work together to overcome your problems, it's not a "miracle cure".
